2011-12 Season
1
Sept 20 – Oct 7, 2011 For Grades 4 - 8
By Louis Sachar from his young adult novel

When young Stanley Yelnats is sentenced (despite his innocence) to the wasteland of Camp Green Lake, he and his fellow juvenile detainees are forced to dig holes in the hot desert sun day after day after day. What is the Warden looking for? What has it all to do with Stanley’s “no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather” or with a long-dead outlaw named Kissing Kate Barlow? The wheels of justice grind slowly, but when past and present overlap, the truth will be revealed. Exhilarating adventure, twists and turns, peril and promise -- all this and buried treasure, too, can be found in...Holes. Tennessee State Standards covered by this production.

Kennedy Center TYA logoIt sounds so simple, just a quick trip to the Laundromat with Daddy, Trixie and her beloved Knuffle Bunny. But, before you know it things go horribly, hilariously wrong. Chock full of adventure, song and gigantic dancing laundry, Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Musical tells a tale of firsts: a stuffed animal's first trip in the laundry, a little girl's first words and a Daddy's first time dealing with his child going "boneless."

Apr 10 – May 11, 2012
For Grades Pre-K - 2
Adapted from the book by Doreen Cronin, Illustrations by Betsy Lewin
Adapted by James E. Grote, Music by George Howe,
Lyrics by George Howe and James E. Grote
Farmer Brown’s cows find an old typewriter in the barn, and next thing you know, click-clack-moo, clickety-clack-moo, Farmer Brown gets a typewritten note:
"Dear Farmer Brown, The barn is very cold at night. We’d like some electric blankets.
Sincerely, The Cows"
When Farmer Brown refuses to comply, he gets another typed note: "Sorry. We’re closed. No milk today." The cows are on strike, but with the help of a neutral duck arbitrator, everything gets back on track...kind of. If you loved NCT’s productions of GO, DOG. GO! and GOODNIGHT MOON, then you’ll love this hilarious musical romp, ripped from the pages of one of America’s most popular picture books. Tennessee State Standards covered by this production.

2011-12 School Group Ticket Pricing
For the past four years, NCT has been able to keep ticket prices the same. This season we have to increase them slightly to meet the demands of inflation. However, we’re still committed to making sure your students can attend our productions, so as always, let us know if you need assistance.

To qualify for the school rate, groups must have at least 10 students.
The school rate is $8 per student
For every ten students, one teacher gets a free ticket.
Chaperones are also $8 per person. However, the chaperones must be paid for with the school payment. A chaperone paying independently will be charged the standard adult rate of $19.

Ticket Subsidy Options

Download NCT's Ticket Subsidy Form for information and guidelines regarding financial assistance.

Learn about Student Ticket Subsidy (STS) from the Tennessee Arts Commission.

NCT is happy to provide volunteers to help you prepare one of the community grant requests that are available for funding school field trips. Assistance is limited, so contact Lorna (615-252-4662) before the volunteers are too busy.

What to Expect on Arrival
If arriving by bus, please remain on the bus until NCT’s Assistant House Manger comes to speak with your bus driver. The AHM will instruct your driver on where to park during the performance and will then help you and your students exit the bus. Once off the bus, an usher will lead your students into the theatre.
While the students and chaperones are being lead to the theatre, your field trip organizer is welcome to bring payment to the box office, if your group has not already paid.

If arriving by car, please have your group collect in the lobby. Once your entire group has arrived, please let the House Manager know, and an usher will bring your group into the theatre. You group will not be sat until all parties in your reservation have arrived.

For groups with many chaperones: We know that parents who chaperone school groups would like to enjoy the performance with their child, however, too many adults within a group make it difficult for the children in the group behind them to see and enjoy the show. With this in mind, extra chaperones may be asked to sit at the back of the theatre, separate from the students. If your group has more than one adult to 15 students, it is likely that some of your chaperones will be seated at the back.

Etiquette at the Theatre
Feel free to let your students know that if something in the show makes them want to laugh, clap, play, or sing, then please do! Their (and your) reactions make the play fun for the actors and the rest of audience (The actors can hear the audience.)
However, we ask that students stay in their seats, and not talk to friends during the performance. Extra noise can distract the actors and make it difficult for them to perform. (Again, the actors can hear them.)  Right before the show begins, the lights in the theatre will go off. Some kids might grow nervous, but let them know that it normal and happens so they can see the stage.

Educator Previews
Each show has one preview performance on Tuesday evening at 6:30. That performance is our Educator Preview Event. Educators and a guest are welcome to attend this performance on us. Prior to the performance there is a workshop for teachers that will show how elements from the play can be used for classroom instruction. This workshop qualifies for professional development hours in many districts. RSVP here.
